Teacher Profile:

Anna Youngs has been teaching yoga in Cambridge for four years. Since discovering a love of yoga seven years ago, Anna has developed her knowledge, training, understanding and practice of yoga so that she can share the many benefits with others.

Prior to her first pregnancy, Anna has been studying and practising a range of Hatha yoga (Iyengar, Ashtanga and Sivananda). Her yoga teacher training qualifications, in yoga therapy and ashtanga yoga, are from America and Thailand.

Her first pregnancy gave Anna the opportunity to fully appreciate the benefits of antenatal yoga. She has not only trained with Birthlight, but also with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, an exceptional and inspirational yoga teacher. Her UK qualifications are:
                  
                    Birthlight antenatal and postnatal yoga diploma
                    Birthlight baby yoga diploma
                    Family yoga with Sitaram (Uma)

She is widely read and experienced in the positive benefits that yoga has in giving birth. Her Birth Preparation Workshops reflect her knowledge and understanding that birth can be natural and empowering. With her first child, she had a natural water birth at home and also had a very calm, focused and positive home birth experience with her second child.

Anna believes that postnatal yoga is essential to nurturing a sense of well being in every new mum, as classes offer time to exercise and tone, relax and to meet other new mums. The benefits of baby yoga are well known in helping baby's to develop in every sense: physically, emotionally and mentally. These benefits for mum and baby continue through her todder yoga and toddlerobics classes.

Prior to being a yoga teacher, Anna was a mainstream teacher for 9 years and this experience is reflected in her yoga teaching. Each class has a general theme, with individual needs and abilities cared for. Drawing on her own experience, practice and research, Anna teaches that yoga brings release from stress and a sense of calm and freedom to the body and mind. In her classes, students work at the poses to stretch, tone, align, strengthen and relax the body. This focus helps to clear the mind and bring a fresh perspective. Releasing tension from the body is developed further with breathing exercises and guided relaxation at the end of the class. Anna aims for each student to leave feeling more energised and relaxed.

At present, she specialises in antenatal, postnatal, baby and toddler yoga so that the benefits of yoga can be felt within the whole family.
